Who Are We?

The Group was formed in 1999, and originally members came from the neighbouring districts of Halton, Colton, Whitkirk and Austhorpe.  We came to prominence when the Leeds Pop Music Festival was held in the Park and three-day camping was allowed in various locations within the Park.   The Pop Music Festival eventually found a new home at Bramham Park, near Wetherby.   The Friends of Temple Newsam Park were then able to move forward and concentrate their efforts on the original aims and more positive actions of a Friends Group. Our membership has risen over the last 20 years to aprox 240 households.

Our Aims

  • We facilitate teams of volunteers who help in the Park in practical ways

  • We communicate with Leeds City Council and other Bodies, if, and when, necessary

  • We hold Group Membership of the Leeds Civic Trust and the Leeds Tree Wardens

  • We help support the Beer Festival and man the entrance

We raise money for the benefit of the Park and so far have helped to provide new pathways, sineage, motor transport for disabled visitors and bench seats for park visitors.
